This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Platform").

This Privacy Policy is designed to comply with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 ("SPDI Rules"), and other applicable laws in India.

By using Rippl, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described in this Privacy Policy. Please read this policy carefully before using our Platform.

02Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number (optional), profile picture, and authentication credentials. If you sign up using Google Sign-In, we receive your basic profile information from Google.
  • Profile Information: Information you choose to add to your profile, such as bio, interests, profile photo, and your Rippl Base (selected location).
  • User Content: Posts, comments, photos, videos, and other content you create or share on the Platform.
  • Communications: Messages you send to us for support, feedback, or inquiries.
  • Business Information: If you create a Business Page, we collect business name, address, category, hours of operation, contact information, and business verification documents.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

Location Data: Approximate geographic location (within 3km radius) for Rippl Zone features. We do NOT store precise GPS coordinates.

Device Information: Device type, OS, unique identifiers, browser type.

Usage Data: Features accessed, time spent, interactions.

Log Data: IP address, access times, pages viewed.

Cookies: Used for preferences and analytics.

2.3 Information from Third Parties

Information from connected services (Google), other users, or public sources.

03Sensitive Personal Data

Under the SPDI Rules, "Sensitive Personal Data or Information" (SPDI) includes passwords, financial information, health data, sexual orientation, medical records, and biometric information. We collect the following SPDI only when necessary:

Passwords

Encrypted and stored securely for account authentication purposes.

Financial Information

Payment details (if applicable for premium features) are processed through secure third-party payment processors and not stored on our servers.

We implement reasonable security practices as required under the SPDI Rules to protect such information.

Provide and Improve Services

To operate, maintain, and enhance the Platform and its features, including location-based content delivery.

Personalization

To customize your experience and show you relevant local content, businesses, and events within your Rippl Zone.

Communication

To send you notifications about activity on your account, platform updates, security alerts, and promotional communications (with your consent).

To detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical issues.

Content Moderation

To review and moderate content using automated systems (AI) and human reviewers to maintain our family-friendly standards.

Analytics

To analyze usage patterns, measure the effectiveness of features, and improve the Platform.

Legal Compliance

To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.

Business Operations

For internal purposes such as auditing, data analysis, and research to improve our services.

05How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information.

5.1 With Other Users

Content visibility depends on the feed (Rippl Zone, Followers, My Space). Profile info respects privacy settings.

5.2 With Service Providers

Shared for hosting (Railway), maps (Ola Maps), moderation (OpenAI), analytics, etc., under strict contracts.

Also shared for: 5.3 Legal Reasons, 5.4 Business Transfers (Appx Technologies LLP merger/sale), 5.5 With Your Consent.

06Data Retention

We retain info as long as your account is active or needed for services/legal obligations.

Account Deletion: Personal info is deleted or anonymized within 90 days of request, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention or legal compliance).

Note: Content you have shared with other users may remain visible even after account deletion if other users have saved or reshared it.

07Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include:

  • Encryption of data in transit using SSL/TLS protocols
  • Encryption of sensitive data at rest
  • Secure password hashing using industry-standard algorithms
  • Regular security assessments and audits
  • Access controls and authentication mechanisms

While we strive to protect your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

09Location Privacy

Approximate Only: We store general area (Rippl Base), not precise GPS coordinates.

No Real-Time Tracking: Location is only collected when using location features.

Controls: Update Rippl Base in settings or disable location access on device.

10Children's Privacy

Rippl allows users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

For users between 13 and 18 years of age, we recommend parental guidance. Parents can contact us at [email protected] to review, delete, or prevent further collection of their child's information.

11Third-Party Links

We are not responsible for privacy practices of third-party services linked on our Platform.

12Data Storage

Your information is primarily stored on servers located in India. However, some of our service providers may store or process data in other countries. When we transfer data internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information in compliance with applicable laws.

Modifications will be notified via the Platform or email. Continued use implies acceptance.

16Account & Post Deletion

How to Delete Your Account

For security reasons, deleting your account can only be done from the web platform. Follow these exact steps to schedule your account for permanent deletion:

Sign in to your account on the web platform.

Go to your Settings and click on the 'Delete Account' button.

You will be prompted to enter your username.

Re-enter your username to confirm your intent.

Click on 'Delete Account' to finalize your request.

This action will schedule your account for permanent deletion.

Your account will be permanently deleted after 90 days. During this period, logging in will cancel the deletion and recover your account.

After 90 days: All your posts, comments, reactions, and profile data will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

How to Delete Your Post

Unlike account deletion, you can delete your post from both the Mobile App and the Web platform. You do not have to go to the web to do this. Follow these steps:

Click on the 3 dots menu bar on your post.

Click on the 'Delete post' button.

A confirmation modal will appear on your screen.

Select 'Delete' to permanently remove the post.
